Year of manufacture of 600 Rem.
I found a pretty clean vent rib Rem. 600 in 6mm this weekend at the local gunshow and so of course i bought it.[^]
I was looking it over last night and the stampings on the left side of the barrel are stamped U E L 41.
Can any of you give me the year model of manufacture for it??
I also collect 600 Mohawks and noticed the barrel on the vent ribbed model is not as thick as my Mohawk models.
Is this just a trait of this 6mm or do all the vent ribbed models have lighter barrels??
Cant wait to shoot it as it also came equipped with a Simmons 6x18x40 scope.
Any help appreciated.

Using the "E L",it shows to have been made in Oct.1964.
Which,BTW,was the first year of production.
Hope this helps,

Tex,
A note of caution, do not tighten the rib attach screws. The rib is plastic & will yield under pressure, thus warping the rib. If you are concerned about loose screws, use removable (blue) loc-tite to set them at finger tight.
Had a Rem 600 in 6mm about 20 years ago, & have regretted letting it go ever since. ENJOY!

Hey thanks a lot Bobby and Cuss!!
I am not quite sure why Remington put that vent rib on the rifle but it sure makes it look unique.
In fact practically every dealer there at the show was trying to buy it from me!
Getting back to my second question.
Do you guys know if the vent rib models had a thinner barrel than the Mohawks or is this just a trait of the 6mm in this vent rib model??
Again i cant wait to shoot it especially since it came equipped with a Simmons 6x18x40 scope.
