218 bee

I have a 218 bee I got from my grandfather he got it in the late 40s it has the original scope mounts and scope it is in mint condition wiht a lease 99% blueing. I would like to be able to get a price on it any information would be helpfull

    Since I am unable to find a reasonably price 218 Bee caliber rifle, what rifle calibers could be re chambered to accept this caliber and would this be a viable solution.

    I have a very nice Rem. 700 in .223 that I never shoot but I have lots of 218 B ammo I acquired for free.

    Can't tell you the absolute correct twist but Hodgdon's published data for the reloading of the .218 Bee says the tests were conducted with a 24" barrell with a 1:16 twist. Hope this helps some.

    I wouldn't go any slower than a 1-14, the 1-12 would work better. Most likely a 1-10 would be ideal for most bullets (considering that the "B" is a lower velocity round than a 223Rem, it would need a faster twist to stablize the same bullet).
    The 1-16 is probably way to slow for all but the lighest bullets driven to the maximum velocities.

    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    The Bee is a small capacity case and 40-45gr bullets have always shot the best for me in both of my rifles. That weight bullet in still made in .223 diameter which will work best in a Mod 75 barrel. I have not tried any of the newer even lighter weight bullets, but they probably would do well. Even if you used 1:14 barrel, the case is really too small to give you good results with a heavier bullet.

    with 40-45 gr bullets the 16' twist is optimum. 50 gr bullets and up the 14" is better-thats what Kimber of Oregon found out. ditto for the 22 hornet.

    Thompson Center has a 1:12 twist rate for their carbine barrels.

    Cooper, the custom gun maker, lists 1:14 rate.

    My 1 in 16 .223 Hornet wont shoot 50 grainers or the long plastic tipped 40 & 45 grain bullets.
    I'm assuming this isn't a lever action rifle with tubular magazine.
    Go to the 1 in 14 in, .224 bore where you have a wider choice of bullets.
