are these rifles really worth the price? someone mentioned a problem with extracting cases earlier, i have seen this problem on another M1A, but it would easily extract, you just had to do it manually, the rifle was essentially brand new. on anther M1A i saw recently, it looked like the rounds were being fed too "high' they would run into the top of the receiver and hold the bolt open, i think it was factory 175gr or something like that. do these rifles just require alot of fine tuning? or are they very sensitive to ammo? or.....are they just junk?.... i dont think i have any use for a rifle that is that sensitive.

    anyone have any thoughts of the M1A supermatch as a long range precision rifle? what about the caliber? 7.62x51. what about a scope?, should i go with the fixed 10x like the USMC M40A3 uses? or something else?

    i've never run into anyone that has experienced as many problems with an m1a a you have. My experience with these rifles are very positive. they are rugged and dependable. my two cents

    I've got a Springfield M1A National Match & it's a great shooter. It has a match chamber, so you have to use premium grade .308 ammo (not surplus 7.62 NATO), plus keep it clean, and greased to function properly. I've seen other standard models that would shoot almost anything reliably.

    I have owned a m1a since 1990 and I have never had a jam or malfunction of any kind whatsoever. I have never even heard of anyone else ever having a problem with an M1a. Are you sure nobody has messed with it that didn't know what they were doing?

    I own 2 with no problems. Took one up to Penn. to Pa's shoot and everyone that shot it I believe enjoyed it. I highly reccomend them.

    I have owned a standard grade M1A for over four years now. ZREO problems. One of the best buys I have ever made. Heed the warnings however about aftermarket magazines. Use only genuine military surplus or Springfield mags.

    I have 4 Springfield M1A's, 3 full size and one of the new Socom's with the 16" barrel. I shot the Socom yesterday for the first time. They all shoot perfectly without a hitch. They are not only accurate, but reliable, well built sturdy rifles.

    It sounds like the guy who had the extraction problem and had to extract manually may have had his gas shut-off valve in the "off" position. I recall a guy at a 3-gun match I was shooting who could not figure out why his Norinco M1A would only shoot singleshots as he had to manually operate the bolt after each shot. I went over to him and pointed out that his gas valve was in the "off" position. Once he turned it on it worked just fine.
