taurus 45 snubnose powerhouse !

[8D]saw a pretty neat little snubby today a new Taurus 45 UL said it will shoot 45 auto with a moon clip & 45 colt ...very small but that big 45 snout it looked good! anybody ever shoot one ? any good ? think the guy wanted $350...was almost brand new, didnt make an offer maybe could have got it for $300[8D]

    Taurus is an innovative outfit, and they are always bringing out something new, but until your post I'd heard nothing about such a revolver.

    Went to Taurus web site to check the new models ... nothing. Then for the heck of it I checked their whole revolver listing and again, nothing.

    Sure the 45 acp and 45 colt cases and bullets are the same diameter, but the colt is a lot longer. And even though the colt is a rimmed cartridge moon clips would permit having a cylinder chambered for the colt round, but the revolver would have to be made to permit more space between the back of the cylinder and the recoil shield to permit the cylinder to close when using 45 acp w/ moon clips, and then that arrangement would make for a lot of play between cartridge and recoil shield when using colt loads. Then there is the matter of accuracy ... those 45 acp rounds have to make a pretty long jump to clear a cylinder chambered for the colt cartridge. Sure I know you can fire 38 in 357 and 44 special in 44 mag but in both loads the difference in cartridge length is not as great as with the 45 acp and 45 colt.

    If you have the opportunity examine this revolver closely and try and get the full model number.

    And lastly, because I know someone will bring it up ... you can fire 45 colt in the 454's.

    thanks Buddy I just took his word & Taurus has so many guns and seems to bring out a new one every month ! it sure looked long enough for a 45 LC but to then use a moon clip for a 45 auto ? I tried looking it up & no luck....maybe the guy never even shot it? ? ? Billy

    I've got a model 450 (5 shot) in the UL. Don't see how it could shoot 45 autos even with a clip. Just not enough cylinder clearance to accomodate a clip. Not to mention the cylinders are pretty liberal in size. A 45 auto would probably "float around" considerably due to the short length.
