Winchester Model 06 .22

I cant seem to find any info, or value on my rifle in the Blue Book of Gun Values. Model 1890, 1906 61 and others are in there. Ser #761940. Mine has the 12 ring slide and is a takedown Model w/orig. barrel and in excellent shape.[?]

    Hello Neil,

    The Model 06 is the same gun as a Model 1906. In about 1918, Winchester dropped the "18" and "19" off of all their various models that were in production at the time... the Model 1890 became the Mod 90, the Model 1894 became the Model 94, etc... The serial number on your Model 06 indicates manufacture sometime between 1933 - 1941, and it is one of the several thousand "parts clean-up" rifles that were assembled after regular production ceased in 1932.

    An '06 and a 1906 are the same guns. It was a cheaper version of an 1890. I have one that has little original finish and has been drilled and tapped for a scope. I probably shoot it more than any other gun I own, because it has a perfect bore, very accurate and I don't have that compulsive feeling that I have to clean it after handling it.

    As Bert stated the 1890-90 and the 1906-06 are the very same. Winchester authorized the model change in March, 1919 and the first 90s and 06s were simply modified from 1890s and 1906s by grinding the 18 and, or 19 out of the roll die leaving a noticable gap between
    Mod and 90 or Mod 90 Mod 06. Later when the roll dies in use were worn, they changed the die to appear as Mod06, Mod90 with no space.

    Having a 1906 in excellent shape is a really fortunate thing, as they were marketed to the boys market and were used hard and often. A good example of a 1906 is a lot harder to find than a nice Model 90.

    A good reference book on these fine little rifles is "Winchester Slide Action Rifles", volume l: Model 1890 and Model 1906 by Ned Schwing. They have brought these books back out in paperback and it's combined with volume ll. It's the most complete and informative reference I have found.

    Schwing states that after serial #685,999 on the 1906 the 1890s and the 1906s serial#s were shared. You will not find any 1906s with serial#s between 686,000 and 736,468 because these were most likely reserved for the model 90s. They shared serial#s up to about 854,000 with the majority being 06s.
