Help On Scope Mounting
I just acquired a used rifle off this site and noticed that the scope base on the back is taller than the scope base on the front. Is there a reason for this, or should I get new bases. The gun is a Weatherby Vanguard in .300 WBY. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is there a taper from the front receiver ring to the back of the action that would necessitate different heights? If so, that would explain it. If not, change bases.

most all bolt actions have a greater drop at the rear portion of the action as compared to the front portion. Look at it from the side,..and you will see the difference. If the rear wasn't thicker,..you would use all your elevation adjustment to get sighted in at 50yds or at best 100yds.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
