.22 hornet or .22 K hornet

does anybody know for sure if there is a animal like a .22 K hornet,
and what is the differance in a .22 hornet and a .22 K hornet.[:D]

    The Kilbourn Hornet is a popular little wildcat, made by firing regular hornet cartridges in the K-hornet chamber. Unless you reload, stick with the regular hornet.

    Lyle Kilbourn (note the correct spelling) created the K-Hornet in 1940. It is not a commercially made cartridge for ammo, but a few firearms manufacturers are chambering rifles for it. If you are a reloader, and you like the 22 Hornet cartridge, then the K-Hornet is for you... it is one of the very best cartridge improvements to have been invented.

    Years ago a friend of mine that I hunted with bought a Hornet, I seem to remember it was a Winchester 43 (?). It didn't seem to have the range he wanted so took it to a top notch gunsmith we knew and he converted it to a K-Hornet. The gun never seemed to group as good as when original. He ended up trading for a Saeco .222 Remington.

    I have a Contender, 21 in barrel that shoots a ragged hole with 40 gr HP at 90 yrds---the K is more accurate than the hornet will ever be[;)]

    A great little cartridge. Mine is in a Ruger #3. Put 13.4 grains of 4227 behind a Hornady 45 gr. "Bee HP", and can shoot it all day long. Way better than the factory Hornet. Enjoy, GW.

    If you handload then the K is the way to go. I have sometimes thought that the major arms makers have missed a good bet by not dropping the Hornet and instead producing the K-Hornet. JMTCW

    I agree that they manufacturers have missed the boat by not legitimizing the K-Hornet. With the number of new bullets out there the possibilities are nearly endless. I have a Bullberry barrel for my Contender and it will shoot nickel and dime size groups all day long, and that is after I rechambered it from the regular Hornet. The Hornady 35gr V-MAX on top od some WIN 296 shoot exceptionally well out of mine, though it is probably on the hot side. The velocity is up there a bit, but it will turn prarir dogs inside out and is very deadly on coyotes. It is well worth handloading, and in a pinch you always use factory ammo (the glory of an improved chamber!)

    I'd be interested to know if anyone has necked the K down to .20 caliber and had results?
