High Standerd Military H-D?????

I have a High Standerd Military H-D that needed a recoil spring. Ordered one from Gun Parts but it lists the same spring for all Military models. The slide will not go all the way back so here is my question, are the springs of different lengths on the H-D and the H-B as well as other models? This spring was a pain in the butt to install and I can see here it has no travel room. what is the proper length for the recoil spring on a H-D model? Any help, advice, or being pointed in the right direction would be GREATLY appreciated.

    hammer series guns are notorious for being hard to work on. explain what you mean 'it doesnt go all the way back?' if those slides dont go back on EXACTLY in a ritualistic order, it wont cycle on the slide properly. not to sound like a moron, but ensure you didnt put the firing pin in backwards or if part of a broken firing pin is still in there too. btw...springs are all the same.

    Trim the Spring ONE COIL at a time until it functions......or take it to a Gunsmith and let Him/Her fit the spring....for peace of mind....

    I had to put one in mine about four years ago. I had forgotten what a nerve wracker it is. I ordered mine from Gun Parts also, was too long had to cut it to size. Take it slow and have lots of patience.

    I figured it was too long and yes Capt. I have decided to tak it to a gunsmith if I can find one around here. I have no problems trimming it my self but feel mor confortable with someone else doing it and it is a pain in the butt to put that spring back in. Thanks for the info and suggestions.

    im going to assume you measured the old spring to the new one? if its a length problem, its like the guys said, just snip snip and its in!

    Old spring completely missing! Nothing to compare to.
