The barrel could be cut and recrowned to remove the badly eroded portion, provided it didn't make the barrel less than 18" or so.

If the bolt handle has been bent and the bolt face is still in good shape, the receiver not pitted where it contacted the stock and the trigger guard/floor plate still look good, would imagine a homesmith or gunsmith might be willing to talk in the $100 - $150 range, depending on the area.

    Keep off the Ridgeline

The erroded barrel would not make it unsafe, just inaccurate. There are too many 98's out there to pay $100 dollars for an action that has been redone...not knowing the quality of the work that has been done to it.Someone might just want a gun that goes bang, but I see no real value other than parts.

    Love them Pre-64's!!!!-Bob

I suggest keeping it and making your own project gun. They have barrels in everything from 30-06 to 45acp.

I don't think it would be worth much to someone else as it has already been 'worked'.

awcountdown.gifWithout Bill Ruger there would of been no ban .
