.25-35 Winchester

I was thinking of getting a Model 94 in this caliber for short range deer hunting. What do the experts think of the .25-35? Sure looks like an interesting cartridge. Thoughts? Opinions?

I have two 94's in .30 WCF and I would welcome another lever action into the family.

    Sounds like a fair cartridge to me. 117gr slug at 2300fps will work fine. I think midway has brass for them if you reload.

    Yes, I would be reloading for it. Seems to me like a winner for what I would reasonably expect from it.

    I am in the process of working a deal for a 1930 '94 in .25-35. I do hope it works out...

    We have a few old timers here in my area that still hunt with 25-35's,
    good little brush gun for CA coastal deer.

    In it's day, a fine deer cartridge. I find lots of emptys out on the prarie, old ones from the 20s and 30s I'd say.

    It is a fine old cartridge for short range deer hunting, but you should check the regulations in your state, as several have enacted minimum cartridge energy requirements, and those states have outlawed using it and the 32-40.

    Some people speak of the 25/35 in terms that include anemic, under powered and the like but I've always had a soft spot for this cartridge and if you do the math it should be fine for a lot of deer hunting especially if the shots are short of 200 yards. I know I've been looking for the "right deal" on one for a long long time, haven't found the right deal yet or I'd already own one. Hope your deal works out and I'm sure you'll be happy with it.
