Maverick 88 or Remington 870?
Hello, Please what are the pros and cons on both models as a home defense shotgun? Maverick 88 cap: 7 shells or Remington 870? Thank you.

There are accessories galore for the 870. Also the 870 is one of the most tried and true guns on the market today. I would go with the 870 just because you know exactly what you are getting. 0 -
Well, I actually mean how is the quality on a maverick 88? Reliable, durable? Thanks again

I don't like the Maverick.
If you use it hunting the safety is not like the Mossberg 500 and makes a very loud click to scare away your game.
Go with the 870.
Without Bill Ruger there would of been no ban .

One of the biggest oxymorns I hear is "good cheap gun".
It's either one or the other most usually.
The Mav will get the job done, the Rem will git it done more reliably and for a longer period of time.IMHO,YMMV,yadda yadda.
My friend has a 12 yr old Mav,and he does'nt baby it.Lots of buckshot throught it.
If money demands, the Mav. sure beats nothing.
Throckmortons' the alias,cas is the game.0 -
I like a Remington, but a Maverick will do the job. It's basically a Mossberg without all the frills. Plus, 8 shots (factory) is kinda nice, in case you ever want it in the field. 0 -
The maverick will save you some money and will work fine for home defense only. I would not reccomend using it as a tactical shotgun, because although it is very similar to the mossy 500, the quality is quite different. good luck with your choice[:D]

All excellent answers here. The 870 is tried and true and should be had for $250 and up depending on the exact one. The Maverick should come in at under $200 so if cost is an issue the choice is obvious. Both have several accessory choices also. Quality is better with the Remington .
God gave us all a gift. Have you found yours yet ?0 -
For hunting go with the 870....for home defense, go with the Maverick. That is...if that's ALL you're gonna use it for. If you want to do both...the 870 is your shotgun!!!

I have a Mav 88. Fired several different rounds through it and never had a problem. If money is an issue the mavrick would still be a good buy. 0
