Early Model Remington 1100 Value

I recently purchased a Remington 1100 from an uncle, who in turn inherited it from his father.
I don't want to shoot the gun I bought, however, because I don't want to needlessly de-value it if it has any collectable value.

Remington 1100 autoloader
2 3/4" 12 ga.
28" vent rib
full choke
engraved receiver
circa early to mid 1960's (he thinks maybe 1966)
never been fired - perfect condition (no box)
Serial number 430778V

I know this is a common gun, but they started rolling off the assembly line in 1963, so it is an early model in unfired condition.
If the value is not significant, I'll go ahead and have it plugged and shoot it.
Any information on the expected value of this gun would be appreciated.
I only paid $200, so it's kind of win-win.[:p]

    Remington Model 1100s are not "collectable" in the truest sense of that term... way too many of them have been made, and as you pointed out, they are a very modern made gun. $200 was a good deal for a "as new" gun, but it isn't worth a tremendous amount above that figure either (maybe double that figure[?], as I am not sure what exactly you are referring to when you stated "engraved receiver"). If you would like to date the gun, look for the two letter date code on the upper left side of the barrel just forward of the receiver frame, and then refer to the recent post http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=121486 about Remington date codes.

    If it is a "real" engraved receiver, the serial # will be engraved, not stamped. That would certainly increase the value.

    Thanks for the info. It's about what I thought. The "engraved" receiver is indeed just stamped. I'll enjoy it this dove season.

    If you want to sell it I just sold one with 2 3/4" and got $300 for it which I considered a great price. Might as well shoot it and enjoy it.
