winchester 70 carbine 30-06 value

a friend of mine has one of these, it has a 2x7 leupold vari-x II on it. the bore has some pitting and the metal is about %65, how much should i offer him for the rifle? or would the pitting ruin any accuracy the rifle had and render it useless?

    I would not offer him anything at all until you verify that it will still shoot a decent group (at least 1.5" 5-shot group @100 yards). If it will shoot a decent group, I would estimate the value to be in the $400 range... and only that much because it has a nice scope on it. Neglected & abused firearms (which this appears to be) are generally never a good bargain at any price.
