SKS butt stock

When I tore down my rifle I removed the buttplate and found a spring
and a tube like piece of hardware. I have a yugo grenade SKS.

Anybody can tell me what this is?

  Believe this is the recess in the butt where the combination tool kit is kept. There is a spring-loaded catch which retains the tool kit.
