VA Nonresident Concealed Carry Permit - "training"
Howdy. I need to get a certificate that says I've done the necessary training to apply for my concealed weapon permit here in VA. I'm in the Hampton Roads area but can travel to Richmond or Norfolk/VA Beach on a weekend or even some weeknights. Does anyone have recommendations? How much does that cost out here, and how much ammo should I bring? Thanks!

email me...im in va beach and suffolk. im cheaper than blackwater and 1 hour of less travel time. instead of being crammed into a class, its one on one with me. we will shoot at the lishelle range off of lynnhaven blvd. one box of 50 will do. 50.00 and youre done in 1/2 day. no pressure. its done. that quick.[;)]

Is shooting part of the VA requirement? In Fl all you need to do is take any NRA safety class, and Virginia was just added to the reciprocity list. To tell the truth, I was a little appalled when I realized Fl required no proof of proficiency. Many of the folks in my safety class were originally fron NY and NJ and never had any sort of firearm in their hands. 0 -
Can I get a FL nonresident without going to FL? Does the FL nonresident have full reciprocity with VA? How much does it cost? I have a ND permit that gave me reciprocity in AZ as of last October, but I don't have much for east-coast privileges yet.
Checking packing.org - FL takes proof of hunter safety training? I've got that. I wonder if VA would. [;)] I see that WV is the only state that VA gives me but FL doesn't.

you are asking a lot of legal questions that are best answered by the local leos or a lawyer. NRA taught us to steer away from such legal advice, since it doesnt reflect the attitude or opinion of the NRA. the NRA isnt in the legal business when it comes to local law. you may get a lot of opinions and good advice from numerous gun shops or ranges, that will hold water, but the horses mouth behind the window at city hall and PD/HQ is the one that counts. NRA has many courses. the course i teach is recognized NATIONWIDE. you can take it back to FL and it will be good. the one that police look at as the shining star is the one that involves proficency; afterall, youre requesting a carry permit, not a licence to possess a gun in your home. firearm safety courses are designed to teach family members what guns are, what it is called, how it is loaded, cleaned, where it should be, and if youre a child, what to do if you find a gun. the NRA basic pistol course teaches you everything mentioned, plus basic sighting, handling, firing, and cleaning. 50.00 covers your book, range fee, and diploma. its really cheap and well worth it. then again, if you know all this already, it makes my job a lot easier and the course goes fast. remember, NRA doesnt teach concealed carry techniques or law. it differs too much from state to state. all the police want to know is if someone registered as legally qualified to evaluate you, (me,) has checked you out and has determined you are of sound mind and possess the abilty to demonstrate basic safety handling and firing of a gun without being a danger to society and yourself. you need to consult local law for what your legal boundaries and requirements are while carrying. city hall and the PD is a good start. why not just call and ask if they will accept your FL hunter safety course? from my experience, they prefer a course taylored to the pistol...not a scoped hunting rifle and crossing fences properly.

not to show off but nonresidents can carry concealed in the state of vermont without training. which is could be bad now that i think of it, some cityslicker who doesn't know what he is doing.

bobski: Yeah, I can operate and clean my 1911 just fine. I'll e-mail you if it turns out I pick the VA permit or it's required for the FL permit. I'm just trying to escape with the minimum expense.0 -

A&P Arms in VA Beach offers the class you need every Friday night at 5:30 PM. They only take about 10 people a week and the class lasts a couple hours. You'll only have to shoot 12 rounds, and that's just to show that you can safely load and fire your gun (no "qualification" requirement). You'll leave with a certificate you can take to the courthouse with you. Cost is $35.00. If you need any further information on them, just email me. 0 -
35.00 is for a couple of hours of sleep. its the same course. i'll cut to the chase and qual you and spend the rest of the ammo and time having fun with you poppin caps. and you wont have to suffer threw some fat chick jumpin' up and down giggling or some buff dude showing off his skill to his babe. the reason they can charge only 35.00 is they own the range and wont charge themselves 15.00 for a lane. call me, i'll qual you and drive you to the courthouse if youd like. heck, bring your shotgun and we'll go skeet shooting in the afternoon ammo is on me.
