Weatherby Mark V
In 1981 weatherby made two Mark V'S for each state, my brother inlaw has one that reads 81nh01. He is looking for a value and any info that he can find. so i told him i would check on the forum to see what you guy's could come up with. Can't get ant photo but the stock is carved, the barrel is inlaid in gold and the butt has an inlaid emblem that reads 81NH01, any info would be great.

Kinda several questions in one: I recieved a lefty (yes I shoot backwards) Weatherby Mark V from a friend. It has the rosewood forend tip and a white diamond inlay in the pistol grip. I am assuming it is a deluxe model correct? It also says 7mm Magnum on the barrel, am I also correct in assuming that that is 7mm Weatherby Magnum? SN# P56820 Made in W Germany. What was the date of manufacture? Value? If you can help answer any of these question it would be helpful. You know more than I do!

I am not good with Weatherby rifles but I try to help people on this forum with any and all gun related questions.
I am using as a reference the latest edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values. The MSRP on a new Mark V is $2,023.00. A used 100% rifle is $1595.00.
These rifles were first produced in 1957. As I understand the sources some of the barrels were made in Germany and your barrel may have the name Sauer on it.

you can compare your rifle and specifications. A number of Weatherby rifles were chambered for 7mm Rem. Mag. However, if the webpage is accurate and your rifle is a Deluxe model (which it sounds like it is) it would be 7mm Weatherby Mag caliber.

I think you will find that it is a 7mm Remington Mag. All the Weatherbys I have had, and have seen, always say Weatherby magnum in the caliber. I would expect it to say 7mm Weatherby Magnum, in this case. Value is up to the person owning or buying this type of rifle. They sell for less than blue book most of the time, and if you were in a hurry to sell it, with it being left hand, it might be hard to sell. But if a buyer was looking for just this caliber and wanted that vintage, and wanted left handed, they would give quite a bit for it. 0 -
The 7mm Rem Mag was not available in the Mark V Deluxe. Just the Weatherby Mag.
I also find this strange because even if it was a 7mm Rem Mag it should be marked as such, so as not to be confused with a 7mm Mauser etc.

The 7mm Rem Mag is not listed for the Mark V Deluxe. The previous link does not list the Mark V Deluxe available in 7mm Rem. Mag.

I don't see any reference to the old models on that link. I believe in the early years that there was just a Mark V, and deluxe came along later. I think I would take a cartridge for each and see which one fits the chamber. In the old days, even through the 70s, a Mark V was considered deluxe, without the need to tell everyone. 0 -
THANKS FOR THE RESPONSES GUYS. I CALLED WEATHERBY THIS AFTERNOON AND IT IS A LATE 60'S MARK V (NO DELUXE WAS MADE THEN THEY WERE ALL THE "DELUXE" VERSION). IT IS CHAMBERED FOR 7mm WEATHERBY MAGNUM. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE RESPONSES. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET OUT THERE AND SHOT IT.

If I were You ...I'd have the Caliber Engraved on the Barrel alongside the Chamber Portion of the Barrel....Never have to worry about someone borrowing the Gun and not know the Caliber....Just a Thought...............

I still find it very unusual that the barrel of a 7mm Weatherby would only be marked with 7mm.
Anyway I should have mentioned that the Blue Book does not list the Mark V Deluxe or the early Mark V's as being chambered in a 7mm Rem Mag. These rifles are mainly produced in Weatherby proprietary cartridges with very few exceptions.

congrats fatboy, I have always considered the Mark V's vastly underrated. My Dad ,Uncles, their friends had model 70's and model 700's. When I got out of college and had my own money first thing I bought was a Mark V in .270 WM and took it to the deer camp! It shot great and was just so cool looking! I think I just might have changed some of their minds for a few seconds anyway. Again congrats on a great rifle. 0 -
Congraduations on your Weatherby, vastly underated rifle, and cartridge.
Suggest you DON'T mark the rifle at all.
German models (P prefix) are growing in value.
A LEFT HAND even more.
Any marks except normal handling, or modifications devalue it.
