My Marlin 336CS SN 17XXXXXX has the following on the left hand side of the bbl:

    MOD 336CS MICRO-GROOVE BARREL CAL 30/30 WIN.

I bought it used in mid 80's...a real shooter!

I used a Weaver base...IIRC, I used Uncle Mikes sling mounts.

quote:13. Q) What is the small round black and white dot on the bottom of my Marlin stock?

    A) This is the Marlin "Bullseye". This trademark has been used since 1922 on all Marlin walnut buttstocks. Please note that this is not a suitable place to install a swivel for you firearm. Swivels should be mounted approximately 2 inches from the toe of the butt.

Hi, whiteoaks. A 1985 336 is just that. good rifle, but nothing odd about it. Just pop into your local shop and tell 'em what you want to do and they'll sell you the right bases. While I'm not a big fan of scopes on lever actions, screws up the balance, a low magnification scope will be best. Mind you, it would be better if he learns to shoot it with iron sights first, then put the scope on. Scopes can break. If he is dependent on it, his hunt can stop if the scope gets damaged.
