question about 22 autos...which one? cont...

ahh, taxachuestes. what a dump of a state. im a conn native. i can talk. i lived 18 miles from the hi std factory growing up. i find it hard to believe that there arent already hi stds in mass. from the good old days. im also convinced that there are ways to get 22's to compete with thru local clubs. the club officers will know how to navigate the red tape. manderson...nice hi std. dont shoot it, its too nice! does it have the bbl comp and bbl weight in the side compartment? if not, you got rooked! i know where to get one of you need them. now...for the record, (for our new guy reading,) that 107 is a military grip designed to copy the same feel of a colt 45 1911a1. earlier guns were slanted grips that looked more like german lugers. now, back to that 107. the ramp that the rear sight is on. i hate it. it cuts fingers. i prefer the tournament. the sight is on the slide and wont cut you.

    Could you expound upon that. I don't understand where one will get excessive wear between the barrel and frame lock up. Doesn't seem to be a high wear point on the gun?

    Hello BOBSKI I have to disagree on the HIGH STANDARD rear sight with sight on the slide you have movement slight that it might be . My choice is the VICTOR.

    its hard to explain, but if you look at how the trigger guard system reaches up and hooks the bbl lug underneath and pulls it in tight to the frame, if that part wears, the bbl wont stay putt and wobbles. perryshooter, on the rear sight mounted on the slide vs. the ramp mount, hi standard and a hoard of gun magazines tested the different sights and all experiments were conclusive, accuracy wasnt effected, since the guns were built to...you guessed it....'high standards.' old factory records show that it wasnt accuracy that was causing the complaints for the sight redesign, it was the blurr that distracted the shooter when the sighting plane increased momentarily. all pro ramp customers wanted the gun to be EXACTLY like a 45 1911A1. as we know, 1991A1 sights move together on the slide and sighting plane remains the same. to this day, all new hi stds have stayed with the ramp idea as well as moving on to the rib idea on victors, which is nice...but NOT like the 45. and that rib design caused its own problems with case ejection and other things like loose rib screws causing the rib to shift and the front sight falling off when the screw backs out. (old ones were dovetailed.) aaaanyway, the debate is that if you are watching the front sight properly, (as we both know [:D],) you wont notice the rear sight moving. the pros at our level can pick up the change in the space between the front sight sides as the rear sight moves back towards our eyes. in other words, the air space increases for a moment. THAT was why the ramp has an advantage. but for our new guy...heck, he'll be blinking and watching for bullet holes in his targets for a while![:p]

    Hold on a sec. I'm missing something here.

    I understand that if there is a seperate rear sight ramp and the front sight is mounted on the barrel, nothing moves in your sight picture when you fire. Fair enough. . .sights sit there when you fire. . .that's kind of what you'd want from a target pistol, no?

    But if the rear sight is mounted onto the slide, and moves back when you shoot (and the front sight doesn't go anywhere), what "air" is "disappearing"? If you are referring to the apparent space between the outline of the rear sight and the front sight post, wouldn't that "air" (or gap) appear to increase in size as the rear sight got closer to your eye and farther from the front sight? (Again, not that it would matter much since you aren't really focusing on that anyway).

    So anyway, (and I know this is a "loaded" question) is there any particular model of High Standard that I should be looking for? I've looked at a few pictures, and it seems that the Supermatic Citation, Trophy or Victor models would probably suit me pretty well. I don't want to open a huge can of worms, but is there a big difference between these?

    There appears to be no shortage of these guns on this site for sale. What do you guys think of these pistols for example?

    By the way, what happened to all the previous posts in this thread? Did the politicians in MA take those away too? [B)]

    Seriously, the prevailing political attitude here towards guns seems to be "We'll allow target shooting, and maybe hunting, but gosh forbid that anyone (except a cop) is allowed to own or fire any weapon intended to shoot a person".

    Did you guys hear (and I swear, I could never make this up. . .its too crazy) that targets depicting human beings are now illegal to shoot at in MA? So if I go to my local range, and say whip out a photo of say Adolph Hitler (who last time I checked, was already dead), and punch a few holes in it, I could be fined $10,000 and the range could lose its license? Its unbelieveable.

    topics get locked after 10 posts or so. you can reactivate it by just posting a new thread the way i did. btw...i said 'increase' air space. and sights not moving or moving is a loaded debate. my experience is, the gun moves when you fire it from normal recoil; so, it will be recycled before you see the front sight anyway, thus moving doesnt matter. and since your eye is suppose to follow the front blade, if the blade goes up, your eyes go up. not some blank stare into the void where a sight use to be. besides, if your NPOA is in place everything will return to set position for the next shot and front blade air space is a moot point. now..picture yourself at a match. you get a jam on RF. you call for an alibi. you get it and it jams again. a 5 is better than a 0, and you must take the alibi score and the clock is ticking. so you go to reach for the slide to quickly cycle it by pinching and pulling back. whats this? a ramp! how do i grab the slide without bringing the gun down and standing sideways to push it back!? you dont. alibi is scored. you lose. and just wait...i swear youll think of me the day youre pushing hard to get a stuck casing out and your thumb slips. that ramp will go right up your thumbnail and peel skin back and maybe pop your nail off. [:0] finishing polish determines the name. the lower finish is tournament, citation, then, trophy. all victors are nice finishes. ALL have the same quality and craftsmanship. no difference WHATSOEVER.
