Lee Enfield question.

This is a 1942 No1 Mk III*. The barrel, rear flip up sight and reciever are all marked with the same # 122** with a "G" below it. The barrel also has NP 18.5 TONS stamped on it. 2-22" is to the right of 303". Do these numbers mean more than I can figure out?. The 122** numbers are the serial numbers. 303 is a no brainer. The rest have me at a lost.

BTW this is sporterized with 60%-70% finish on metal and wood. Bore is bright and action works fine. Surface rust cleaned up good. Just got it today so I havn't found any pitting. Hopefully I won't. Also has a cartouche(sp)1SA above the S is an arrow pointing up.. Any ideal of value. My friend at work is thinking $50.

  a pic would be helpful. from your description i wouldn't go over $100.00 for it (this would also depend on the sporterize job) check the gb auction there is usually a good assortment of enfields to give you a bench mark to start from. can't help with the markings i'm arsenal markings challenged.[:D]

  For $50 you can hardly go wrong.
  
  The Enfield has a good strong, smooth action......and if you don't mind the weight, will make a fine deer gun.
