Ricochet Starts a Fire?

Can a Ricochet start a fire? The media is reporting that a Fire was started by a spark from a Bullet that Ricoched off a Rock? If this is possible you guys would know.And this is a concern.Thanks for your help in matter.

  Much imported rifle ammo loaded in Europe and China has either a steel jacket and/or a steel core. Because of this, sparks are commonly generated, when these bullets ricochet off rocks. This is specially dangerous if the rocks are located amid dry brush.
  
  I was present at a shooting range where this happened. Ruined our whole day as we had to quit shooting, when the helicopters started dumping water on the hillside.

  If in doubt about ammo, do as the ranges do, use a good magnet. If the magnet and slug stick, there is steel in there somewhere.

  Tracer ammo will sure start a fire.

  Ricochets will also start fires if the bullet strikes a pole mounted transformer! (read that as "voice of experience")lol[:D]

  Swept the range before an offduty shoot and one of the guy's had a ricochet start the unspent powder and pieces if paper on fire, I put it out and everyone thought it was part of the excersize. YES IT CAN.
