We might be able to give you a better idea of what specific model you have, if you gave us the barrel length ( from face of bolt, to end of barrel ) and rear sight configuration, i.e. fixed or adjustable.

In 1976, to the best of my knowledge Ruger was still just making the "Standard Models" & ""Mark I Targets". Which specific one depends on the above information.

It has a barrel length of 4 1/2 inches and the rear sight is fixed. If it was made in the 200th year of American liberty, that would mean 1955 no?

The German pistol is a Walther P38. I put a magazine's worth of ammo threw it just to make sure it was alright, then I cleaned it best I could and I got it in a safe. Its in good condition, fun to shoot but I dont dare to very much. My Gramps landed in Juno, so I figure he got it anywhere between there and Holland.
