pencil gun

i have a pencil gun or fountian pen gun with a pat no. 17183 &1775178 would like to know more about it i believe it's from late 1940;s to early 1950's ,it is a tear gas gun and was found in a box of junk i bought at an auction in the origenal box.

    Chances are it was originally made as a tear gas launcher/dispenser.

    If your able to chamber a conventional cartridge/shell in it, It's legality is questionable.

    I saw one at the NRA Firearms Museum in VA this weekend - it was a .38. You can call them for more info - number is on the NRA.org website. ALso a virtual tour of the museum - Good Shooting

    Don't know about yours but there are a number of companies making them now ie: Stinger for around $200.00 to $300.00 Better not to let too many know of yours until your sure it's legit.

    Actually, the Stinger gun maker has gone underground and doesn't seem to be making them anymore.....

    No question, it is illegal unless registered.
    This is a quote from the ATF website.
    quote:Some examples of the types of firearms that must be registered are:
    A few examples of "any other weapon" are:
    H& R Handyguns;
    Ithaca Auto-Burglar guns;
    Cane guns; and,
    Gadget-type firearms and "pen" guns which fire fixed ammunition.

    P.S.
    It may be a "tear gas" pen. Which is legal to own. Do you know for sure?

    what I saw at the museum was called a pencil gun and it is displayed next to a thunderstick (.38 cal walking stick) and they both fired ammunition
