Mislabeld Winchester Barrel
I received a Winchester 1300 from my father in law that he claimed had never been shot. When I took it out to the range I figured out why. The barrel is marked 12 gauge, but a 12 gauge shell will not fit in it. The guy at the shop measured it and said it was about 16 gauge at the breach end, but a 12 gauge at the muzzle. I sent a letter to Winchester explaining the situation, but got no response. The gun had been bought via classified ad many years ago and I have no paperwork for it. Any suggestions?

Yes... locate a replacement barrel and buy it. Without any receipts for it, I doubt you will get the current company that is using the Winchester name to do anything for you... but I could be mistaken.

It seems doubtful that such a mischambered barrel would have gotten out of Winchester especially since 16ga was not offerred in the Winchester 1300. More likely someone has attempted to restore headspace by soldering in a chamber ring and then did not finish the job. Who knows, though, I guess anything is possible.
Simple task to restore the chamber to 12ga dimension, but with the relative inexpense of 1200/1300 barrels it may make more sense to just buy another.
