REMINGTON BARREL DATE CODES
ARE THE DATE CODES ON REMINGTON RIFLES THE SAME ON REMINGTON SHOTGUNS ? FOR INSTANCE THE DATE CODE ON MY MOD 760 .35REM IS "B ZZ" INDICATING THAT THIS RIFLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN JANUARY 1953. DID REMINGTON USE THE SAME CODE FOR THEIR SHOTGUNS?[:)]

THAT WOULD MAKE MY 870 WINGMASTER 16GA. WITH A DATE CODE STAMP OF
"W XX" MANUFACTURED IN AUGUST OF 1951, CORRECT? HOW FAR BACK DID REMINGTON START USING THIS DATE CODE?

Hello Dewayne...
Yes, and 1921 was when Remington began using the date code.

Hello Rich,
The first letter of the code corresponds to the specific month that it was manufactured (see below), and the second (and for some years a third) letter denotes the year.

Hello Rich... I am not sure about that. It seems that there are too many characters in the date code... is there a separation between the "EH" and the "H47"? If not, you may not be actually looking at the date code. One other thing to keep in mind, the date code on a Remington ONLY dates the barrel... not the entire gun. The barrel could easily have been made a few years before the entire gun was assembled.

Bert, that why this one was bothering me, all my other remingtons have a 2 or 3 letter code on the left side, easy to decode after I had the key. This one has all five in a row, no space, poorly struck, with the upper half of the charachters very faint. On the opposite side of the barrel it has a mark which looks like a US flaming bomb, but I am sure it isn't. Oh well, guess it will be a mystery.
