Silencers...

remington nut
was just curious to know what the proper licensing would be to buy/sell/own a threaded silencer.. was a topic of discussion between me and some friends... nobody ever came up with a definate answer... any help??

    It varies STATE BY STATE.
    To buy one you need to get it through a class III dealer. You also need to pay a ONE TIME 200 dollar tax on it.
    To sell one, you need to be a class III dealer.
    If you are interested in one, call your local gun shops and find out if they have a CLASS III license or not. They can walk you through the process. Hope this helps.

    well that pretty much answers it... thanks guys.... i was under the impression to own a silencer you also had to carry a license... weather it be ffl or class III or such ...

    sign off for you
    GO FOR IT!
    You'll never regret it.
    It adds a new dimension to shooting enjoyment, whether it be 22LR handguns
    or all the way up to suppressing a machine gun.
    I've done it (on all the above) and sure don't regret it.
    If I had to make a decision as to Class III purchase and was
    limited to either getting a suppressor or a machine gun;
    (And the $ was not the deciding factor)I would honestly say
    I'd get the suppressor.
    Although a machine gun is enjoyable (and has been a appreciating asset),
    they do get costly to shoot.
    With the suppressor, once paid for-basically no more expense.
    BUT, if you get one---make sure your barrel is professionally
    threaded...............Baffle strikes are a NO NO.

    i have a .243 single shot pistol... A Magnum Research Lone Eagle... with a threaded brake on it .... was considering getting a silencer to replace the brake for groundpigs in the more populated areas.... most of the farms/landowners dont want all the noise of a pig hunter, besides... the barrel is already threaded.... may as well get all the goodies ya can right [:D]

    I have a can on my .223 m-4 a3. It took 6 months total to get the deal done. And actually it could have taken 2 more months and still been in the parameters that were laid out., so I was lucky to get it done in 6 months.

    You DO have to keep your stamp form with the can at all times, even when you travel in your home state. I am going to make a 2 sided copy of it and get it laminated to carry around with me when I travel.

    Personally, I would have to say go for it. I got it for my personal collection as far as my cheif LEO(sherrif)and it is definately worth the wait to shoot quietly. As anybody who has shot one knows, those short barreled ar-15's have a helluva muzzle blast and crack. Now, I can shoot it with full power ammo all day with NO earplugs.[:D]my .02[8D][;)]
