Steel or Aluminium Scope Mount Base for Remington

My personal favorites are Dave Talley and Warne rings. Both are steel and both split vertically rather than horizontally. I think Cabela's carries Talley rings, but I buy them direct. I get my Warnes from Guns & Glass here on the board. I perfer two piece bases over one piece though one piece bases are probably stonger and more rigid. I just don't like the way they crowd the chamber. I use the above on Rem. 700, Ruger 77's, H&R 300 Ultra, and a Howa. Calibers range from .243 to .257 and .260 through 7mm Rem Mag to .308.

I only use steel rings, but might consider aluminium if I were scoping a really light weight mountain rifle. I hunt in the mountains, but not with ultra light rifles.

Like He Doggie said....for steel mounts...go warne...but for lightweight setup....talley alloys are the only way to go.

Everyone has a photographic memory. Only some have film.

One peice bases are good for rifles where extreme accuracy and durability are a concern. If the rifle need only be "hunting" acccurate,..2 peice bases are fine. I prefer cross slott weaver style bases such as leupold PRW, Warne, etc.

Tallet makes a great ring as does Warne and the Leupold PRW (made by warne)

For my long range stuff,..I prefer 1 peice tactical bases with the picatinni spacing and stress releived steel. Weight is of little concern on these rifles.

why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
    Got Balistics?
