Ejectors

Hi, I am wondering is a shotgun worth less because it doesn't have auto ejectors. I bought a Huglu O/U and it doesn't have auto ejectors and my friend said It is worthless without them. Is this true?It was not a really cheap gun around $850.00 and it is sharp looking. Thanks Joe

    Your friend wants it cheap?
    With extractors you have to remove the cases by hand, which can slow reloading, but makes it easier to recover your shells (no point in littering). The difference in speed "might" matter on a sporting clays range IF they throw a 4-8 bird set (not very common BTW) or in a hot duck blind, other than that it dosn't make a hoot of difference.
    OTOH, ejectors make it harder to save your hulls (esp on ranges that "own" the hulls once they hit the ground) at skeet/trap ranges.
    It realy comes down to personal choice.

    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    Hardly. A shotgun without auto ejectors may be worthless to your friend, but that's not a reasonable thing to say.

    Ejectors are a matter of personal preference, depending upon the kind of shooting you do. Those of us who shoot at clay birds & reload don't want auto ejectors; we only fire once or twice, & want to pick the empties from the chamber & drop them in a bag. We don't want to walk around the range searching for 25 cases after each round.

    On the other hand, many hunters want the cases thrown out as soon as they break open the shotgun to allow for fast reloading & a quick follow-up shot. To them, auto ejectors are a necessity.

    A shotgun with selectable auto ejectors offers the best of both worlds. However, they tend to be more expensive.

    It's all a matter of personal preference.

    non ejectors are quiet too. hunters dont like the SNAP ejectors make.

    I prefer not having them. I had an O/U with them, but the springs were so tight that the spent shell flew out and hit me in the forehead while the gun was at my waist. Not fun.

    Some shotguns are either or. In some you can move a spring to one side of a set screw or the other and change from extractor to ejector.
    Read the lit that came with it or email the maker.
