Break-in for Kimbers (cont'd)

Continuing an earlier string, here's what the Kimber manual for the Compact, Pro Carry and Ultra Carry says:

BREAK-IN PERIOD

Before firing the pistol for the first time, field strip and clean the firearm following proper procedures. Kimber firearms are quality custom pieces. Our firearms are hand fitted to tight tolerances. For proper Break-in of the firearm shoot 400-500 rounds of quality factory ball (230g. FMJ ammunition, cleaning and lubricating the gun every 100-150 rounds.

    It would appear that firing a few hundred rounds in a new gun is always adviseable to wear away any burrs from the machining and smooth out the mating surfaces in the action.

    This is MUCH different that what the 'break in bunch' advises (I am one too).

    Maybe that Kimber bore has had more attention at the factory than some others. I'll check for copper with more attention when I do a break in... maybe I am wasting some of my time.

    ... and I have to say, as the owner of a brand-new Kimber CDP Ultra Carry, that I'm really enjoying the process! What a gem of a pistol! It's starting to come between me and my Series 70 Colt, which got worked over by the boys at Wilson Combat ....

    Like I said before... I LOVE MY ULTRA CARRY!!!!!!! Wife likes it too, maybe need to get her one [:)] I have been shooting the Winchester 185gr USA ammo, I think this ammo and the lite frame of the Kimber work good.. Give it a try! OH!, have shot over 1800 rds in it now, only problem was in the first 25 or 35 rds.[:D]
