M1 Garand Op rod

I just bought an M1 and when I took it apart it has an uncut op. rod. It is the Springfield D35382-6. I have read that they are not safe to shoot. Do you think I need to replace it for shooting? I would also like to know how much it is worth and how much to replace it.

  I also wanted to add that I use Lake City ammo (66').

  Uncut op rods are safe to shoot. About the only thing that could damage it would be if you were to fire rifle grenades, &, even then, it would not threaten your safety.
  
  Some collector might be willing to pay a premium for it, especially if the finish is original & in good condition, & if he needs it to complete a restoration. About the only way to be sure would be to auction it. However, they are not THAT scarce, & I doubt that it would bring enough to be worth the effort.

  I have now looked at a few other op rods. I want to know why one op rod can be cut and one can be uncut but they have same identification number as another. Example: D35382 9 SA. On two different rods for sale the number is the same but one is cut.

  After WWII, most M1's had their op rods cut when they were arsenal rebuilt. And, all new op rods were made with the cut. This greatly reduced breakage, which was believed to have been caused by firing rifle grenades.
