    I am not familiar with a 1905 Savage pistol. There is a Savage 1907 pistol that was made in 32 caliber. The only Savage Model 1905 that I know of is a single shot rifle.

    Is this a semi-automatic pistol? Is the finish blue or other? What do the grips look like on this pistol.

    Sorry, that was the patent date, 1905... Anyways, yes it's a semi auto .32. It has a blue finish... there is maybe 5% of that left on the gun it's self... doesn't look like it was maintained too terribly well... as it was just up on a shelf in a cabinet... I oiled it up, cleaned the bore with gun solvent and put some rust preventative to eliminate the existing rust... the exterior isn't pretty.. But all of the internal mechanisms seem to be in good order... the bore looks in excellent shape... As for the grips, They're just black with a round Indian chief head logo in the center... [8D]

    Of course it is impossible to determine anything without looking at the gun. Assuming it is a 1907 Savage in .32 ACP. it sounds to be in bad shape say a 5% gun based on your own assessment. A 60% 1907 Savage would be worth $100.00. This particular specimen would be worth less than that. Therefore, it would not do any harm to replace parts if they could be found because the value won't be affected. But rebuilding this pistol might will probably cost you more than the gun is worth.

    If you want to rebuild this gun as a hobby or project or there is some sentimental reason to restore the gun, there is nothing wrong with that. If the bore is in good condition it might be a good close (very close) range shooter.

    I can take a few pictures of it, and post them, I think it is "fireable" before i fired it i would definatly have it looked at. But i did a good cleaning job, slide works well and the bore is in good shape and everything is oiled... If i had to make an educated guess i would say it hadn't been cleaned in atleast 50 years... Anyways i'll get the pictures up here for you guys to take a look.

    Since this pistol isn't worth anything i was thinking about taking a little dremel tool to it to see if i can get rid of the rust and smooth some of it out.... or should i stick with 0000 steel wool..?

    actualy there are several models of SAVAGE semiautomatic pistols...
    SAVAGE MODEL 1904
    SAVAGE MODEL 1907
    SAVAGE MODEL 1908
    SAVAGE MODEL 1910
    SAVAGE MODEL 1915
    SAVAGE MODEL 1917

    it is easy to confuse the variations and differant models. patent dates are often confused with or mistaken for model types / numbers.

    Hi dsoelter,

    I have four or five Savages, I really like them. It is a sweet shooting, natural pointing pistol. Finish is always an issue and what you call 5% might be 50% or better to someone else. Its a striker fired mechanism and gunk builds up in hidden areas over the generations. A good cleaning is a good idea.

    The burr and spur cocking pieces are not hammers so don't lower them and expect the pistol to be safe. That will put the firing pin on the primer of a chambered round. Engage the safety any time a round is chambered. I hesitate to carry with a round in the chamber even with the safety on. I'll go cocked and locked only in an emergency.

    Be cautious on first firing, I've had a few multiples on new acquisitions. Full auto makes people jumpy at the range. ;-) A good test is one shot in the mag, then two, then three, etc., to see what happens. Once you know you're safe you'll enjoy shooting lots of 32's.

    anyone have any idea what a savage 1915 in 380 in 98%-99% would be worth these day i know under 4,000 were made this one is mint must have been put away in a drawer and left untoched thanks jim jimsgunshop@aol.com

    Jim.....the Blue Book lists a Savage 1915 .380 in 98% condition at $600. Add 10% with original box and instruction manual.
