Walther PPK/S

does anyone have any experience with the walther PPK series of pistols. i am considering bying a slightly used SS PPK in 380 auto as a CCW.

it is 390 and change at a local shop. and appears to have been rarely fired or quite well taken care of. (was told it was braught in by an older gentalman)

is 390$ a good price? and is this a good pistole for CCW.

any general experience would help as well (accuracy, reliability etc.)

    Okay, I know this is obvious to many of you guys, but why does the Walther PPK/S .380 have 9mm stamped on the barrel also?

    Is it stainless or blue? Both mags? It came with two when new. Box?

    If stainless in box with both mags in nice shape, that is a bargain.

    Is it PPK or PPK/S? PPK has shorter grip.

    Walthers work well. You may find it likes some ammo and not other ammo.

    For me, the straight blowback action makes for fairly stout felt recoil. Also, if you have beefy hands, the slide will cut you if you don't grip very carefully.

    it was SS with wood grips. i beleive it was a PPK not a PPK/S

    as for the box i would bet it doesn't have it and i think it had one mag but the other might have been there.

    I am a real fan of the PPK.I have a stainless one on my CCW.Pay close attention to Davids caution. My hands are nowhere near beefy, but the slide can draw blood on the web of skin between the thumb and forefinger.I ground and polished a radius on the lower rear portions of the slide to allow it to push the skin away instead of slicing it[8D][8D]. Mine is exceptionally accurate and totally reliable .

    I dont know where you live but i would say grab it, Stainless used around illinois that i have seen are goin for $450. 380 is a good lil conceal round and i would suggest rounds like glasers or hydroshok for ammo.

    Here in the Northeast Ohio area that would be a great price for a Stainless PPK in good shape. As far as the .380 cal goes, my Wife carries one. The lightweight style .380 such as the PPK or Sig was to 'bouncy' for her so she decided on the Browingn BDA with a little more weight. Carry rounds are Gold Dot's or Hydra Shocks.

    Sounds like a good price.

    I own a PPK in .32 ACP. It came in the box with two magazines and a test target. It was probably 99 to 95% condition for $300.00 a few years ago. This particular specimen shot very well and is one of the most accurate pistols with fixed sights and short barrel that I have every experienced.

    My friend bought a PPK in .380 at the same time. I am not sure what model this was but it was a compact version maybe the PPK/S. Anyway it didn't shoot worth a crap and was extremely difficult to handle. I polished off a knuckle or two because there was not enough clearance for my hand. The report on this pistol was also nasty for a .380. Anyway, my friend disliked this pistol so much he sold it the next week.

    Difficult to tell sometimes what will work best.

    It's one of the few guns I've ever gotten rid of...

    For such a small caliber it was very brutal. It looks cool, but to me it just didn't fit with so many other quality options.

    If possible, try to shoot one.

    If it's stainless, it's a PPK/S.

    I had one for several years and it was a good, reliable pistol. I only sold it because I wanted something else.

    Interarms offered both the PPK and the PPK/S in Stainless. Mines a PPK[6 shot stainless].Sold a bunch of both.

    Had one several years back, carried it on the ankle as a backup. One of the most relieable guns I have ever had. I agree with other's be careful with the blow back on the slide it will put a couple of cuts on the web between the finger and thumb. Pachmeyer made a grip that would replace the orignal grips that made the gun very comfrotable in the hand. Galco makes some nice holsters as well.
