I have a 1948 Model 52B that was rebarrelled years & years ago by Les Womack with a 28" bull barrel, Canjar trigger, laminated stock. It has all that made the 52 famous as a target rifle, but for hunting I also have a Reproduction Model 52B Sporter. I've had it a few years and have a Leupold Alaskan 6x scope mounted on it. It doesn't have the aura of a US 52 and the wood is stained with some off-the-wall finish that one of these days I'm likely to strip and redo with Linseed or Tung oil. But the gun is a quality piece, that functions reliably, shoots where you point it, and is my favorite for going to my cousins in Iowa for hunting those grays and big fox squirrels. This is not slight praise because this choice is made over the other 22s in the safe: Winchester 55, Marlin 1897T, Remington 550-1, Savage 4 and 24C-DL. If you're looking for a "shooter" you won't be disappointed.
