An AOW is a form of Class III weapon. It stands for Any Other Weapon, and just as the name implies it covers all those odd ball guns such as Pen guns, pistols with a forward grip, and smooth bore pistols like the one you saw advertised. For a short barreled shotgun to be classified as an AOW it must have come from the factory with either a pistol grip, or with no stock at all. Most AOW's are created from Mosseberg Crusaders that come from the factory with a pistol grip. You would have to pay the $200 fee if you build your gun into an AOW because that is what the ATF charges for a weapon made on a Form 1. If you buy an AOW made by a class II manufacture, then you would only have to pay $5. AOW's are probably the most confusing part of Class III weapons. I hope that helped
