mauser spando , questions

a friend of mine owns one but doesn't know much about it .it has a monto carlo stock with original finish .he thinks it is a blackpower rifle .it has a very large bore and large cartridge .
any info on what its worth or caliber would be helpful . he is looking to sell it as it not any use to him .it appears to be old but is in excellant condition .

    Spandau was the Prussian Government Arsenal. It was located just outside of Berlin. They produced rifles for the German military from the 1850's, to the end of the First World War.

    You're going to have to provide us, with either a concise physical description of the rifle, including all markings and dimensions, or preferably quality close-up photos. Without the above information, we have no way of helping you.

    i can take digital photos of the rifle but dont know computers enough to post pics . i can email them to you or perhaps to another gb member and get them posted to this topic.thanks for the info you did provide .

    Single shot or tube magazine? Either way I'm betting it's chambered in 43Mauser (11.15x60R) Model 1887(?) "commission" rifle, probably wrong on the date, but I should be close.

    As for the rifle it is very likely that it started life as a Mauser Model 71 which was a single shot, or the later model 71/84 which is an 8 shot fed by a tube magazine.

    Both are 11mm or 43 caliber.

    At one time (Years ago) there were some very nice sporters made from the rifles, especially the Model 71 ... great wood and checkering work in/on the stocks, double set triggers, etc.

    Until we can see what your friend has it would be very hard to try and help set a value.
