98 mauser?
bought a k98 mauser, its a bcd code, 1943. barrel is marked avk 3 43 bys, blue is very good, bore is like new. bolt doesnt match. can anyone tell me how rare the code is,info and worth. thanks

bcd, Code is a Gustloff Werk rifle. Barrel is Ruhrstahl, strange it has (2) different letter codes on it?
K98 k's are comeing in from Russia, bunch of the on-line Milsurp
dealers are advertising the various codes including bcd.
In note of the above, and given your rifle has a mismatched bolt, my WAG is that it's not a high value rifle.

The "bcd"+ 1943 code means that it was made at the Gustloff Werke at Weimar Germany in 1943. I have a "337" 1940 which was also made at Weimar, which is re-finished Russian capture that I payed $100 for a few years back. I think that the #s on the barrel are inspection proofs, but the book I have does not mention them. But, If those marks were some kind of fancy unit stamp it might increase the rifle's value, so I would ask a Mauser expert. Not a novice like myself. See ya Felix

yea, its possible its been rebarreled since the rear sight doesnt match.barrel is all military with good original finish, no import marks? 0 -

A hands on inspection by a collector would be in your best interest. You did not say if it is a refurb or not. Being made in '43, it's possible that the bolt is a field replacement, but this would have to be determined. '43 made weapons still had a goodly number of proofmarks and due to the inherent robustness of the K98, few parts are prone to breakage.
I have seen artist doll up a Russian capture so that few people can tell it is not original. You need a loupe, good light, and a good background in Wehrmacht weapons to tell.
I wouldn't worry much about the barrel being different just yet. Most people don't have the capability to change Mauser barrels. It was quite common for a maker to use subcontracted barrels. The rear sights are very easy to change out from battle damage, you just have to know the 'trick' to it.
Show it to a real Mauser collector, being sure to let him know it's not for sale early on (we're human too, and will try to perloin if possible!).
