Old Mills Shotgun Belt

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum, but I look at it frequently. I am 22 currently but I am already completely dedicated to one hobby- collecting militaria of all sorts (which of course includes as many guns as I can get my hands on).

Anyway, I frequent the auctions in my area and today I picked up a Mills belt, in incredibly good shape, that is made for holding shotgun shells (there are 30 loops), the hardware says patened apr 18 1905 and there is a stamp that says Mills (inside a bullet) with the number 2 below it. Being familiar with militaria, I recognized the possibility that it was valuable being Mills and all (it even came still holding 9 old super x paper shotshells). It has a military style clasp, like on a pistol belt, and no buckle.

What is some of the history of this item? Was this issued to troops for use with 1897 trench guns? Would this be a good display piece to go with a correct WWII trench gun? etc.. Any information would be helpful.

    If you get the chance to rent the Movie the Wild Bunch...You'll see the Cartridge belt in question...The China Wars...The Border Wars with Black Jack Pershing and the 1st WW, and of Course the 2'nd WW...I'd estimate the belt to be worth $100.00 and Possibly more...in the condition You discribe...Seems to Me that its intirely possible that some of these Belts saw action in Nam.....Best....

    Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated. I am glad for the quick responses on both of my posts and I got a lot of information that I can really use. For the record, I have seen the Wild Bunch, but now I have an excuse to watch it again and see my new belt in action. Also, I won't tell you guys what I spent on the shotgun belt and the bandoleer that I posted about in case any of you have weak hearts (O.K. I'll give a hint, I could have bought the crate or I could have gone out and had a decent dinner).

    I just saw two on a table at the Reno Show. The ratty one with a couple of brass shells in it was $125 and one that was in good condition and half full of brass shells was $250.
