shotgun for skeet?

tried a few rounds of skeet this morn,really had fun.i used my old winchester super x1 with a short barrell and a mod tube.thinking about buying a gun just for skeet,really dont want too spend alot of money.what about the eaa over /under?any thoughts? thanks don

    Stoeger Industries makes really good over unders as far as I know, and I dont think they run for very much. the site is stoegerindustries.com

    Unless you're not a hunter, just use the gun you hunt with. That way you get to be a better shot with your field gun.
    I've not used the E.A.A. shotgun myself, but I have heard they are well worth the money, but that same money would buy many of the pumps and used semi-auto's on the market that will serve the purpose just fine too.

    For casual skeet shooting, your field guns will be fine. If you get serious about it, you'll want to go with a shotgun meant for skeet. The main differences are the beads on a skeet gun are arranged so that you line up under the bird so if the bird drops, you will see it. The second main difference is how the gun is built. A skeet gun will see as many round in one season as a field gun will see over a life time. For example, conservatively I shoot eight rounds a week. This works works out to over 10,000 shots per year. This almost forces you to reload which means an O/U is best for keeping the hulls. If you compare field to trap or skeet O/U's, you'll notice the trap and skeet O/U's are build much stronger for this reason.

    Just get a I/C or Skeet tube for your X1. If you must have an O/U, spend some time on shotgunworldDOTcom before jumping on one of the econo-brands. You're better off spending that money on tubes and ammo for the X1 than a budget O/U. Whatever you do, get the gun fitted to you. It must never hurt you(recoil/flench)and must shoot where you point.

    If you're looking for a cheap o/u shootgun try out the baikal izh-27, ok it's russian, but so what. It shoots well and is nicely priced

    get a skeet tube for your gun and start saving your money for an excellent condition used Browning O/U Citori - take every opportunity to shoot different range guns or guns owned by other shooters (even if it is only firing a shot or two) to see what you really like - don't rush - shopping for a new gun is one of the great experiences of being a shooter - Good Shooting

    folks, folks, a super x m-1 was built btwn 1974 to 1981. it doesnt have screw in chokes. and the sxm-1 receiver is built with a MILLED receiver and MILLED bolt assy. regardless if its a field or skeet model...its the best built semi auto on the books. that gun will outlast dozens of other guns. a center bead is used to align the gun to your eye during mounting. the focus is then switched to the target and the bbl is never looked at again. if a shooter can align his gun right every time w/o a center bead, its not needed. shoot that sxm-1!

    I agree with bobski (I hate when that happens)use the Winchester. After a few rounds of skeet, if your still happy, look into having choke tubes put in or the old polychoke method (they are still available). If you really want to use the modified and not change the barrel, another option is to use a "post wad" if you reload yourself. Post Wads can create holes in the pattern, but I've never seen it in any of the patterns I've tried. Last option is to buy a new barrel with the screw in winchoke system (I don't know if that is available).

    im starting to wonder if his bbl isnt already reamed out for choke tubes...? if it is...go with the advice to use an i/c or a skeet choke tube.

    thanks guys! yes my barrell has tru choke tubes in it already .but it has been cut down too 21" and it doesnt have a rib.shouldnt i be using alonger barrell for skeet?thanks don
