i can answer it. i was an aircrew survival equipmentman in the navy. we cross trained all the time. the navy had f-102's for use as missile target jets and crash models in NWS china lake, ca... usaf pilots wore a survival vest similar to the navy SV-2. the usaf switched to a mesh type vest later on in history. then eventually the navy did too, and the SV-2 style went obsolete. the gun would sit behind the pencil flares and survival knife, muzzle down. most common gun was the colt agent 2" snub, and of course lightweight s&w's. the pouch was to the right of the center zipper as you wore it. since the right hand held the stick that flew the plane and since there was no reason to shoot a gun inside an f-102(delta,) it was to the right. if a jets radio went out, pilots use to use the survival radio to communicate, so, they had to hold it in the left hand to fly the plane. (radio pouch was to the left of the center zipper.) next, guns left in smelly lockers with perspiration and body sweat from old clothes will cause a gun to rust as fast as a gun used in a salty environment. navy regs and mean old gunnersmates hated to clean guns for idiots who didnt do it themselves. thus, navy guns in patrol commands will get 200% more attention than a gun left in a locker when GM's reported violations to the CO. now...if you left a gun to be cared for by a SEAL...it would rust in one week, since a beer isnt part of the cleaning PQS.

former air operations officer SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team 2. former navy skeet team, former navy rifle/pistol team member. co-owner skeetmaster tubes inc.. owner/operator professional shooting instruction.
