WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE???
As a New Collector and buyer of handguns a Curious situation has happened to me, and perhaps those of you in the know can explain this to me..I recently found Gunbroker.com, and purchased a "handgun" from a seller that was "mint in the box".It was NOT a newly manufactured piece, but one from a maker that was long out of business.Upon recieving it, I took it to my local range, and it jammed and malfunctioned..I called the seller telling him it was defective, and his reply was " I never fired it, but it looked new to me"..However in the interests of fairness, he did take it back and issue me a refund..I then purchased another one (same manufacturer and model since I like it that much)..Same story.. Mint in the box with the papers..Same problem: Jamming, and misfiring..Again, I called the seller..Same story: "it looked unfired to me..Sure ..I'll take it back".In fact the gun was FILTHY and had been fired MANY times.the point I am making is HOW THE HELL can a dealer Purchase a USED gun and NOT check if it is a FUNCTIONAL weapon????..This is not a radio, or toaster oven...Its a WEAPON for defense or sport..And at the prices that are being charged..Wouldn't one think that a dealer would check if it works????..I was also at a Local Gun shop and saw the SAME handgun in the dealers case..VERY reasonable price too, I might add..I said to him.."does it work"?? Again: his reply:"I dont Know"..I told him I would purchase it and test it, and if it was faulty, I would return it..His response was LAUGHABLE!! : "Id rather sell it at a gun show, in that case"...Again: WHATS WRONG with THIS PICTURE????????????

Maybe you need to find a different make or model to buy?? Something reputable. If your local gun dealer won't guarantee it to work, then you need to get something better. Ask your local dealer which ones he will guarantee to work. 0 -

comment. I/we are unable to comment w/o your information. A mint arm could be a Jennings. The "mint" condition is recognized as the condition of the firearm-not the quality. And you purchased another
one? Same make?

I'M A DEALER IN NEW AND USED GUNS , [ BUY,SELL,TRADE ] AND LIKE MOST MY BUSINESS LOCATION DOESN'T ALLOW ME TO TEST FIRE GUNS. I DO GIVE THEM A COMPLETE INSPECTION . I GUARANTEE THEM TO BE SAFE AND FUNCTION PROPERLY , IF I COULD NOT I WOULD NOT HAVE TRADED FOR THEM NOR BOUGHT THEM . AS 101AIRBOURNE STATES SOME ARE KNOWN FOR PROBLEMS . IN SOME CASES AMMO IS A CONTRIBUTOR TO A JAMMING PROBLEM . THE JENNINGS PISTOLS WERE TESTED WITH REM. FMJ AND HAVE FEWER JAMS WITH THE REM. AMMO .

Two faulty firearms of the same make and manufacturer generally isn't a good sign. It would be hard for me to blame this on the seller. It dosen't sound to me that the dealer/s were trying to sell you a defective piece. It seems like the gun itself is the problem. What is it?0 -
I agree with the above post it doesn't sound like it is your case but There are collectors and shooters You stated your pistol was NIB but out of production. To go to extremes if you had a 1st gen COLT SAA NIB there would be many collectors that would not want it to be shot by the seller and very few shooters who would buy this gun to shoot. quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN" 0 -

Perry, if you re-read his story, he never said that it was NIB, but "Mint in the box".
Zathras, I've purchased firearms that were "Mint in the box" and were also from a maker that has long since been out of the box. I didn't test fire it, since you couldn't even see markings on the cylinder. I suspected that it may have been fired, but it didn't show any outward signs. As most collectors know, and you also stated that you are a "New Collector...", the less that the firearm is "test-fired", the more valuable it may be. So that might be why it was never test-fired.

That's the point..NONE are guaranteed to work!!..the pistol in question was a Bauer 25 pocket pistol, but again, it goes beyond the make and model..It seems any "used gun" in a dealers case, or on the web, has no guarantee that it will fire, YET, the buyer STILL has to go through the security and local law enforcement process to purchase it , which makes NO sense to me..If there was no procees by the dealer to check if it works, then it should be sold as an antique, simply for SHOW..I am just a bit BAFFLED at some dealers, being new in this hobby, that they would NOT take the time to CHECK it or spend a few bucks on a few shells, to test the weapon since they purchased it for resale..0 -
Sorry about your bad luck with the Bauer but I've had mine for over 20 years and fire it often enough to know it shoots very well. It took a while to figure out the correct ammo for it and then NEVER a problem. Welcome to the boards and go find one and test several different types of ammo.
