Your ammo is legal. However, it will be difficult to sell. If you sell it on the Internet, the buyer will have to pay high shipping charges, which means that he may not be willing to pay a lot for the ammo. It may difficult to find a local buyer, but, if it were mine, I'd be happy to get $50 for the case.

To find the value of your gun, go to the Gunbroker home page & do a Smart Search on completed auctions in the last 90 days. Only look at auctions where the rifle actually sold. That should give you a good idea of the current market value.

Without seeing it, I cannot tell you definitively whether your ammo is AP or not (and maybe not then). The fact it is ChiCom mfg does not mean it is corrosive, although this is certainly a strong possibility. The wooden crate / spam can packaging was used for export ammo as well as for military purposes. I bought such several crates many years back which were used to package / ship NC Norinco ball ammo. Don't recall what I paid for the ammo, but if you figure you can buy current NC ball ammo out of Russia for $0.10 a round or less in quantity, the $50 suggested is in the ball park. Your best bet for determining the value of your SKS is to look at sales (not listings!) of comparable firearms here and other auction sites.

    blind one,

Can't be positive, but are you sure the ammo is really AP?

Just because the cartridges are made from steel does not mean it is AP. There is some serious misunderstanding about this. Usually all Russian and Chinese ammo is steel cased and jacketed. They use steel because they cannot afford the brass and copper we expect to see in the US. However, this does not necessarily mean the ammo is AP. If it is AP the cartrides themselves should be color coded to indicate AP.

Their ammo used to be called "Steel Core" and I believe Clinton said that future imported ammo had to be lead core. Not sure of any date?
