22 cal.sub sonic ammo
I have been told that this type ammo makes very little noise when fired. I live in a small town and have some neighbors that have a stripe down their back and stink. Been using my 410 but at midnight it wakes other neghbors up. Thanks for any advice someone can give me..........thank you

Several makers of sub sonic ammo. remington is one but Ely or aquila make a more accurate round I believe Midway has some in stock a semi auto seems to be more quiet than a bolt gun. If supressors are legal in your state you can get a real quiet set-up. 0 -
Hello CCI long Cb's work great sound like an air rifle in a rifle lenght barrel however they will not function a auto . 0 -
If you can find it, try the Aguila SSS. It pushes a 60 gr. bullet at subsonic velocity and although it pops a bit when shot from an enclosed area it is still quiet compared to STD or HV 22 ammo. Some guns shoot it very accurately and some not worth a darn. At the ranges you are probably shooting at, the accuracy more than likely will be sufficient. However, the trajectory is pretty much a rainbow so if you are shooting at some distance, you need to be aware of the drop. It is a very good killer. One of the pest exterminators in this area uses it to dispatch larger animals like beaver, skunk and racoon in residential areas, so he doesn't have to put up with all the garbage from the tree huggers and such.

Hi,
I have tried every subsonic ammo out there and the cci .22 cb short's produce by far the least amount of noise. I am using a bolt action norinco .22 lr, so cycling a short low power round is of no concern to me, however this round with my rifle works very well shooting 1" groups at 50 yds. The cci .22 cb longs make just as much noise as a .22 short out of my rifle perhaps it would be quieter out of a semi-auto although I don't know why or how it would be. The aquila sss shooting the 60 gr. bullet makes a little less noise than the cb longs/.22 short, and a little more noise than the cb shorts, but out of my rifle accuracy is given up in the worst way going from a 1" group to almost a 3" group, but again your rifle may like this ammo, mine doesn't just want to be clear on that before I ruffle any feathers. The remington subsonics out of my rifle well they are pretty much a joke as they make signifigantly more noise than a .22 short and are just a little less noisy than a standard .22 lr. I would recomend trying the CCI .22 cb's the short ones not the .22 cb long.0 -
The quietest 22s I've found are the Aguila Super Colibi. These use 20 grain bullets and are almost silent. 0 -
Only use the Aguila SSS Sniper Sub Sonic in Rifles. I blew up an auto pistol. It was great fun, while it lasted. Luckily I had a lifetime warranty, and had it replaced. Mine was a pocket pistol. The SSS might be ok in a quality pistol, ruger etc.. Check with your local Gunsmith, before you use these in auto pistols. 0 -
Hi texas_42, I'm with roysha on this one. The Aguila SSS will function fine in any semi-auto that doesn't have too heavy of a recoil spring. Thats pistols and rifles, but don't take my word for it, try them out for yourself. At less than $5.00 a box its worth a try. (The shorter the range, the less noise they make) BE SAFE!!![:D]

while not one of the 3 most quiet of this type, i prefer the RWS DYNAMIT NOBEL 40 GRAIN LEAD HOLLWPOINT SUBSONIC .22 LONG RIFLE ammunition. it was originaly designed for, and still utililized in suppressed and silenced arms. this is match accuratte ammo, made by one of the best manufacturers around. i like to use this ammo in my testing of newly aquired smallbore firearms.
best regards, mike.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of my favorite subjects!!!!!!!!!!! I live in a rural area and I trap feral cats. They are constantly dumped off in my (literally) neck of the woods. I use a have-a-heart trap and dispatch them with the super calibri's at point blank range. TALK ABOUT PISSING OFF A CAT!!!!! Those things are sooooooooooooo weak that the cat looks up at you like you were the biggest sweetie in the world. Shoot them in the head and they look at you like that sh&& REALLY HURTS!! A 22 short lays them out right now, however. It's much kinder.
Don't even try to hit a target at 50' though. The Aguila's hit the ground before they get to the paper plate, LOL. I use a bolt action single shot and it sounds like a pellet gun. The feral cats decimate the local quail and turkey populations.
....I never met a gun I didn't like!0
