Why? If you have too much money, you can send some to me. There is no reason to use steel shot for trap or skeet.

not true. some ranges are now under new epa rules and regs requiring steel shot or else they must close. one such range was at ft eustis army base. you could no longer bring your own shells, you had to shoot their steel loads. some didnt like it because it ruined thier pricey gun bbls, so they ended up using club guns with steel shot. the club closed within a year. ive shot 1000's of #7 and #9 steel shot loads there and it does the same thing as lead. no change for clay birds. hope it helps.

If I had to use steel, I'd use the same size shot, and choke CYL for skeet and for trap try IC (lead rating) at the 16 and IM at the 25 (not a trap shooter myself), adjust as needed from there.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
Every year I shoot afew lines of skeet and trap with steel'because
that is what I hunt with mostly,I also use a 20ga
I use 4s 0r 5s with a modified choke for trap and 7s for skeet
also mod choked
I do good enough for hunting but not to the standards for trap and skeet
Its a great way to get ready for dove shooting on waterfoul production land sept 1 I cant wait0 -
I'm sure glad we can still use good old lead..........for now!

Sorry for this novice question about steel shot. I haven't shot a shotgun in over 20 years when all you shot was lead. Does steel shot have any adverse affects on the guns steel barrel?

Anyone that uses a modified choke and steel shot for skeet, is
a "Man's Man"! Providing those are lead based chokes....

steel shot will scratch the bore of an old lead shooting gun and will wear out the choke as well, unless its chrome lined. on the modified choke making you a mans man? the latest world class pros shoot full choke so there is less lead on a target. its common practice. when they dropped the fps rule, most pros shoot 1300 to 1400 fps loads in full choke with 30 or 32" bbls. with these combos, all you do is touch the front bead to the target and pull the trigger with no lead on any station[;)]. its less to remember!

** NEWBIE QUESTION **
So, what's considered and "old gun" that should not have steel shot run through it? I have a 1985 Browning BPS 12Ga.0
