22 conv. ???

GREETINGS,
i'm in the process of getting rid of a complete colt mk 1v series 70 goverment model upper.
i want to go to a 22 conversion. it will be going on an excellent essex lower.
all recomends appriciated.

    I have owned a number of conversion units in the past. They have all been the Colt manufactured type with the "floating chamber".

    If you're interested in the Colt type, test fire it before you buy it. I have found them very fussy ammo wise. Because of this I exclusively use CCI Stinger ammo in them. If you use the less expensive ammo with unplated lead projectiles, the "floating chamber" will "solder up", causeing you much grief and the use of very bad language, before you get it working again.

    My Ceiner unit is ammo sensitive, but does well with half a dozen brands of ammo like the CCI and WW Power Points. Kimber has a unit that looks very similar. Accuracy is decent, but not target level by any stretch. For that you want to look for one of the Kart Conversions or similar that use a steel slide similar in appearance to the S & W Model 41. Unless I found an early Colt unit that had real collector value I'd stay away from the floating chambers.

    Hello you did not state the intended for this unit but my 2 cents worth the colt will need cleaning more often as it has a floating chamber it will also recoil more than the rest as this unit was made to feel as close as possible to a 45's recoil accuracy is not the best. The ceiner kimber and some others will recoil less but accuracy is still so so. If you want to plink they are a good choice. However if you want to shoot in pistol matches there are in "MY OPENION" only 2 worth buying No. 1 KART "out of production and somewhat hard to find No. 2 MARVEL "being made today and shoot great but will not hold the slide back after last shot" both of these units have a method of locking barrel to frame all the rest just use the slide stop pin. quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"

    i think clays has the right answer...as far as conversion kits...i have a early colt with floating chamber..if you keep it clean it runs perfectly..have not own the other makers so i can not comment on them..

    if youre looking for serious scores, go with a KART unit, bar none.
