Mosin Nagant (final)
I want to first start off by saying how much I appreciate everyones solutions for the problem I was having. Unfortuneately I still can't get the round to chamber. We've filed, sanded and did what we could. I've come to the conclusion that "someone" doesn't want me using this rifle so my father bought it and hung it on the wall. Again the knowledge you all have is amazing and its nice to know there are people who can give professional and reliable information. If I ever have another gun question or know of someone who does you'll see me again. Thanks

How sure are you that you have the right ammunition for the rifle?? 0 -
I took it to 3 different gun dealers and they all said 7.62 X 54R is what it takes. A 7.62 X 39 is too small and I believe the only other would be a 8mm and it looked like the back rim of the casing wasn't round enough to seat in the chamber. I'm at a loss 0 -
Your foray into the world of military surplus rifles certainly has gotten off on the wrong foot.
If you are near Asheville NC I would like to take a look at this gun, I bet I can fix it.

The best Mosin Nagant is the Finnish M39. You can find one from these guys for what you paid for that M38 [you didn't get a real good deal on it even if it worked ok]
The M39 has really nice, adjustable sights. It has a beautiful stock with pistol grip. It is the most accurate of all the Mosins.
And, if you don't like the one you get you can return it.
ps Yes we know it takes 7.62x54R, but are you sure the ammo you have is 7.62x54R? Lots of the military surplus ammo is not labeled.0 -
The 2 boxes say 7.62 X 54R so I would imagine thats what they are 0 -
The only other solution I can think of is to have a chamber cast done and check the dimensions. 0
