?? on Winchester model 72/72A
Per the blue book, the model 72 and 72A were only made in either .22 LR or .22 Short (Gallery) models. I have seen one on auction that is listed as .22 S.L.orL.R. on a barrel photo and appears to be in pristine condition.
Did Winchester make some of these to handle all 3 lengths of .22 case?
The photos show the Winchester proof mark on both receiver and barrel. The trade mark/model and caliber appears like the Winchester model 61-3 barrels.
Would appreciate any comments from someone more versed on the subject.
Thanks, Bob

The 1954 Gun Digest lists the Winchester model 72 as "Takedown style with a tubular magazine which holds 20 Short, 16 Long, or 15 Long Rifle .22 cartridges interchangeably." It looks like the Blue Book is mistaken in the description. 0 -
I've owned several 72s over the years and all were S-L-LR.
Love them Pre-64's!!!!-Bob0
