Help with early 1851 colt Revolver
A friend of A friend asked me about an old gun he has. It looks like any other 1851 colt Navy I have seen, but the back of the trigger guard is squared off. All numbers match, steel frame Serial #1364. no finish left, someone has cleaned up the rust a long time ago, bore is decent, locks up tight, indexes. stocks appear to have shunk over time. I have pics, but don't know how to post. Any idea as to a value?

Per "Flayderman's Guide" , and using your description of the "squareback trigger guard" & serial number, it appears that your friends Colt is a "Second Model Squareback".
If it's not a reworked reproduction? but an original Colt, even in rough condition you describe it would be worth some money.
Best thing would be to locate a knowledgeable/reputable collector or dealer near you, for a hands on appraisal. Even if you have to pay for it, if you could verify that it was a original Colt, it would be worth it.

I am fairly certain it is an orgional colt. It feels and looks like a 150 year old gun. Top of barrel is stamped ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YoRK CITY. Side of frame has Colt Pat. Any recomendations on an "expert" in NE Ohio?
