scope mounts for 98/22..german K98
I recently purchased a Czech Mauser 98/22. I bought a sporterized stock pretty cheap. I must have sanded 5 pounds of wood off this stock. I layed down several coats of linseed oil. The rear sight is zero at 300 meters. Its just not fun shooting it any closer than 200 yards. My eyes aren't good enough for open sights anyway. My question is.. Do any of you know of a good scope mount for these rifles. The 98/22 is set up the same as the K98s are. I already bought a Nikon for it but no mount yet. I'm leary about buying a substandard mount. I want a good one without having to drill and tap the reciever.

The only way that your going to be able to mount a scope "without having to drill & tap the receiver" is to use a "scout" mount. This type of mount utilizes the existing rear sight of the rifle, and requires no permanent alterations to the rifle.
S & K makes several models to fit various Mauser Rifles.

Unfortunately that Nikon Scope you bought isn't going to do you any good, as a long eye relief scope is required for the various "scout" type mounts.
