Auto Ordinance or S&W 686
Im going to purchase either a Auto Ordinance Thompson or a Smith 686. I already reload for both 357 & 45acp. My delema is which would be the wiser choise? Im not a hunter, I collect mostly and rarely target shoot. Some of my concerns are in NJ as soon as they develope the smart gun ( now about 1 to 2 years away) all other handguns wil not be allowed to be sold, hence no more 686. Next if the AWB sunsets as I think it will, its only a mater of time before a new more encompassing one takes it place, which I believe will include any Military guns including the Thompson (Gone for years now in NJ is the 30 carbine cause it looked evil). I can only aford 1 of these 2 (3 kids in college eats a big hole in family budget). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Broomie,
The only thing that matters here is your preference for a pistol.
The .45 auto would be more concealable but since that isn't a consideration, I would chose the 686.
In my opinion the 686 is a better quality weapon and it should be a better investment if you ever decide to sell. You can certainlty defend you home with it should the occassion arise.

My $.02 - I own a 586 and it's the most accurate handgun I have. It's not as pretty as a Python but it works all day long. 0
