I have an old muzzleloader with an inside diameter of approximately .935 inches. Does anyone know what gauge this would be?

A simple micrometer that measures the inside of the bore would work... Also, Galazan's (among others) sells a keychain type device that fits into the muzzle.

this is just an idea but if all you want is something to tell if its a 12 or 20 ect. why not use short pieces of wood dowel rod? they come in a large size range , should be able to find some thing that would be close enough for your needs ,just take a fired case to your local lumber yard and see if any thing matchs up ,,
just my .02cents worth well maybe in this case .01 [:D]

Brownells has one for only a few dollars, if all you need is 12 vs 20.

Simply use a dime, it will not go into a full choke 12 gauge, it will start into a modified choke 12 gauge and slips into an improved cylinder/open bore 12 gauge. It doesn't even come close to fitting a 20 gauge. This is about as cheap a bore gauge as you can get for what you need.

I must be missing something here so my answer may sound stupid. But if all you have is 12's and 20's (no 10's, 16's or 28's) all you need is a 12 gauge factory loaded shell. If it drops in the breech and chambers, its' a 12, mark it 12. If it won't go, mark it 20. Let me know if I misunderstood the question.

Actually he got ring finger deer_sniper. I believe your thinking 16 index finger.[:D][:D][:D]

But either way it's about the cheapest way I have found.[:D]

I use a very nice brass guage from Galazan, about $35.

HEDOG thanks for the link. Exactly what I was looking for. Could have gotten something somewhat cheaper but "you get what you pay for". To all others that responded. Thanks for taking the time to assist me. Good people on GB.
