ID of M1 Carbine?
I could use some help with the ID of my M1 Carbine. The only markings are on the reciever behind the rear sites (111639) and on the barrel band (M T. 3) note-the 3 is in a circle. I have found no other markings any where on the weapon. I belive it might be post band era for it has no bayonet lug attachment and the operating slide that catches the bolt was not solid but was just an open oval. Any help or suggestions would be helpful. If a pic would be more helpful I can e-mail one to you.

If you have a USGI M1 carbine, it may have a replacement adjustable rear sight that hangs over the manufacturers name; look under the overhang with a flashlight. I'm guessing that it will say "Inland".
If it is not a USGI carbine, then it could have been made by one of several commercial manufacturers. The terms "pre-ban" & "post-ban" are meaningless in describing an M1 carbine, as it was never "banned" as a "semi automatic assault weapon" under federal law.

An M1 can be made into an illegal 'assault weapon' if you can not prove the folding stock with pistol grip, bayonet lug, and an evil flash hider were not installed prior to 1994.
Of course that silly law expires in a few more weeks.Without Bill Ruger there would of been no ban .0 -
There is no markings under the overhang of the rear sight. 0 -
A photo would be helpful. However, if completely unmarked, it will be difficult to be sure who made it. I would guess that it was made by AMAC or Plainfield Machine Corp.
In any case, it would be a good idea to have it checked by a gunsmith before firing it; there are some poor quality commercial carbines out there that could cause the shooter injury.
